Submission Guidelines

Flight is a literary magazine that features four pieces in each issue: one poem, one story, one essay, and a “Brewer’s Choice” category, offbeat submissions, which will rotate genre by issue. Please see each submission category for specifics.

We only accept previously unpublished material. We consider work shared on social media and personal websites to have been published. We will not consider work generated by AI, and/or work that is bigoted or discriminatory.

We accept simultaneous submissions, but we would appreciate a prompt withdrawal of any pieces accepted elsewhere so we can raise a glass to your success. Pieces can be withdrawn by notifying us at our site email, flightliterary@gmail.com

While we are currently not a paying market, we look forward to enthusiastically promoting your work both now and in the future. We also nominate for industry awards.

Please submit all pieces to this google form: Flight: A Literary Sampler- Issue 2 Submissions sent via email will not be read.

Poetry

We want poems that bring clear images and movement. We’re open to forms–from traditional to free verse to experimental–but if we’re being honest, we are more likely to select pieces that prioritize meaning and image.

-Please send 1-3 poems, up to 6 pages of poetry, in a single document, in Times New Roman.

Fiction

Rich characters, engaging conflict, and a fresh hook: these get our attention. Genre elements are fine as long as they don’t distract from the good stuff.

-Please send one story, up to 2,500 words in length, double-spaced and in Times New Roman.

Creative Nonfiction

Our ideal CNF piece asks us an interesting question and confidently guides us to the answer. We’re looking for language that is clear and expressive, and a story that deepens our perspective.

-Please send one essay, up to 2,500 words in length, double-spaced and in Times New Roman.

Brewer’s Choice

Our Brewer’s Choice category will feature a different genre of writing or art each month. This is the category to submit your weird stuff that doesn’t fit in our other three categories.

Send us: photography, comics, visual art, reviews (of books, movies, your mother-in-law’s lasagna), humor, lists, one act/ten minute plays, interviews (with someone real or imagined), self contained novel excerpts, etc.

-Prose: 2,500 words maximum

-Image: one .jpg image of at least 300 dpi
